I usually let Meredith go first
because ladies first but if you
don't mind Maryland I will go
and take that lead. Good
morning everybody my name is
you know he minutes I'm the
animal control supervisor for
the City of Las Cruces- let me
share my screen. Can everybody
see my screen. Yes Sir all
right. So Mr chairman members
of the board I will present to
you my may be of numbers for
twenty twenty one. For the
month of may we had five
hundred and forty reported
strays. Of those two hundred
and thirty seven were G. away
meaning the officer did not
have any contact with that
animal. Of the three hundred
and three of those were
apprehended. Of those strays
that were apprehended a hundred
and thirty one were dogs. And a
hundred and forty four were
cats for a total of two hundred
and seventy five. We were
successful in returning twenty
eight of those animals back to
their owners. And we had
fifteen unsuccessful filled
Artios or attempts and I'll go
through that and one of the
slides it in my presentation.
And so we had a total of forty
three identifiable animals. My
next slide you'll see that we
this is my straight call
comparison for the last three
years- we were only forty above
last month- for this for this
entire year were a little bit
higher than than the last
couple of years- I can't tell
you why you would we we've been
trying to figure that out- but
our numbers did go up. Of the
last couple of months. My next
slide is our three year of
field RGO comparison- we did.
Dip below are typical or
average of thirty. So we were a
little bit lower- this month
than in the previous months and
the previous years. Here are
the reasons for owners
releasing their animals. We had
ten that were- ten dogs that
were taken to the item service
center because the dog owners
could not afford to keep them
any longer. Three Huskies from
one household where owner
released because they killed
the chickens are two dogs two
separate dogs were turned in
because they've been the owner.
One was turned in because it
bit the owner's daughter. One
cat was only released- the mom
of the resident moved away and
left behind her cat- I'm sorry
the next one should have been
added up into my eleven. Up
into the ten number to make it
a total of eleven that could
not afford animals. Are one dog
was only released because it
was destroying the owner's
property. And finally one dog
was owner released. The found
as a stray and kept it for
approximately a year. And a
determined that they could not
get it tame enough to socialize
so the owner released it. Going
to my next flight these are the
reasons that I almost. We're
not able we were not able to
fill the RTO animals back to
their owners- eleven of them
there was no contact by phone
or at the resident. Residence
one microchip was not
registered to microchip
informations were not current.
And one the finder- said that
they would keep the dog- and
wait for the owner to pick it
up there which- to me it's kind
of like a field or two you'll I
mean it never crossed the
threshold of the shelter which
is a good thing. But we didn't
physically return it back to
the owner. So my next slide is
mine a- Stuve my map let me see
what I can bring it up. I'm
gonna stop sharing for a second
so that I can bring it up. And
then start sharing again. Uhhuh.
There we go can everybody see
myself my screen. Yes Sir all
right. So has I've said in
previous of presentations this
line is available on the on the
City's webpage if you just
Google animal and map you will
be able to look at this map- it
is only read only their- but
you can pinpoint exactly. Where
the dots are and the addresses
now again the blue dots
represent dogs. The b represente
orange squares represent cats
and the red dots represent
other than cats and if
there's any a request for
meetings zoom in in a
particular area or council
district I can do that right
now. So typically during my
presentation- I will goover
what we consider in some hot
spots. Unfortunately this month
we did not have one area or one
stood out more
than anywhere else I mean you
do like let's justay this
little area where I'm
struggling with my cursor. Had
a couple but it wasn't to one
particular address it was more
to a neighborhood- if we look
here. Well I stand corrected.
Here is an abundance of cats
that were impounded over the
last month so you see that
there was six. Cats from this
one area or one address. Last
month. You know zoom out and
see if I can find some more of
those. All my information is
gonna they had to give it a
minute to catch up. A summary
about that. So again you know
other than that one there was
no particular hot spots as for
one address. But you can see
that there was a couple in
neighborhoods- I'm circling it
with my with my cursor. But not
really one particular address.
So that is my presentation- Mr
chairman if there's any
questions I will stand for
those now I need. To make sure
of it still has a handle. Go

Here Gino for the presentation
real quick at just looking at
the summertime weather and
everything- I am curious to
use. I see if you are expecting
a larger amount and kind animalk
water shelter- or any of those
types of items. A Mister chair
consistently absolutely we do
that every year we expect a
greater number of wildlife
calls in the summertime every
year- particularly this year
and I would we've been in a
drought for who knows how many
how many years now- so the
animals are always coming down
from the mountains. To get the
water that's accessible to the
pools or to maybe even get
the river to get some water- so
we always anticipate that.
However this year so far we
haven't had an abundance of
calls for wildlife- central
dispatch is doing an excellent
job of referring those calls to
the particular agency that is
responsible for responding to
those calls. So anything that
is protected- those calls will
go to New Mexico game and fish.
And any other wildlife those
calls will be directed to a
USDA wildlife services. So we
as animal control aren't
fielding as many calls for
wildlife as we have in the past
since those two ammo use- were
signed and agreed upon. Okay
but we still anticipate getting
some we will assist. Our
response time is a tremendously
greater because those to other
agencies are- short staffed and
they're spread all over the
state or in the district. So
our response time is a lot
greater or lot quicker- so
therefore we can respond faster
and maybe take care of the
issue so they don't have to
come all the way from let's
just say- I'm goral order. You
anywhere like that to respond.
I think that answers your
question it does thank you and
the second one is more of a
comment at least- for those of
us that the city- as we look at
the trap neuter release like
the next steps- you know I
think it be helpful term and
keep an eye out on. This
information that we have if
there are any hot spots that we
can meet you target for
education as well later on- and
see where resources are needed
and selling out that section
team conversation-hat we're
having at the City on what we
need to do to make sure that.

opinion this data at this map.
Shows exactly where we're
having those issues with
community cat so that those
neighborhoods we're
having an over abundance of
cats cats can be
targeted- we didn't know at the
time that. This map was gonna
help like that not I'm I'm glad
to the direction of- council
then I was requested to create
this map. Because I think now
it can be used as a tool to
address those neighborhoods
where there's an overabundance
of cats. Absolutely thank you

Okay so this is our monthly
report for may of twenty twenty
one so go to the next line. So
we are we reported are strays
are reported strays for may was
two hundred thirty one reported
strays out of those two hundred
thirty one we picked up a
hundred eighty three of the
stray animals sixty nine of
those were cats on a hundred
fourteen of those were dogs. On
there was fifteen sick or
injured animals that were
picked up. Eleven cats and four
dogs- there wasn't eighteen
ownersurrender this was the
correction here was seventeen
owner surrender animals- zero
cats and seventeen dogs. Go the
next site- this is our
comparison here are for your
comparison of our are he
reported strays if away to ll nt
and how things are going. So we
can go to the next slide. This
is our for your return the
owner comparison- so in may we
return twenty two animals- we
did have an additional two
officers out may so we were
running with status six
officers on the field for ACL
we were running with for- for
various reasons we have those
two additional officers out. M.
we do have three openings for
it right now- we have three
those three positions that
we're hoping to fill as soon as
possible and hopefully get
those boots back on the ground.
And once that happens I'm
hoping those numbers will
increase on a return to owner
out in the field and- give us
some more manpower on that. So
we can reach go to the next
line. I will- Adrian just
wanted one thing really quick
I'm really sorry I've had
several people notify me that
there's no sound on the

yeah and I'm working on that we
are we are able to continue
because Ron Television is
working there but I am working
on the YouTube streams trying
to figure out what the issue is

Okay next five- these are
additional animals are picked
up- the owner surrender cats
like I said on that correction
that was zero for the cat's.
Owner surrendered dogs was
seventeen. The sick or injured
animals only had fifteen.
Welfare hold was three note we
had no- animal neglect
seventeen shelter quarantines
so go to the next slide. And
again I left this in here for
the G. O. districts
explanation of that. For the
geo districts and I'll continue
to leave that in there I think
it's a good reference point if
we ever need to go back to that.
Next slide. And then looking
individually at the Z. Joe
districts you can see how many
animals we've picked up in each
district and what our hot spot
districts are and of course
going back into districts for
that's our winner district with
seventy six- thirty cats and
forty six dogs on. A of course
then you know we've got our
other districts that are pretty
close to that which is five in
three. On that came in. Not
really close to that but- with
the high number as well but for
some reason we keep going into
district for- that's been our
hot spot lately. There's a
question on that yes this is

going to be a combination of
